An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedWhat exactly on a bike that needs fixing? Mostly flat tires I would presume.
I guess in China if you buy a crappy bike it would fall apart easily. -

Requires support from the provincial and federal governments. The draft Greenest City plan will advocate for new sources of funding for improved transit (e.g. congestion pricing, vehicle levies).
An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedTranslink does not need more funding. LIke any government or company that needs a bailout they have to cut costs and that begins with cutting the high wages and benefits. Sure there initially will be riots at translink like the riots in Europe, but everything is fine now in Europe.

Great idea, but perhaps it should go even further: the goal should be to make walking, cycling, and transit even sexier than driving!
An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedThat would not be very likely if you already cycle or walk, long distances in the hot sun besides busy traffic. You know, it is smelly, dirty and sweaty. Nothing sexy about that. Nothing will beat an air conditioned fancy car with a sexy babe beside you with room to pickup a few more.

An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedAlso punish the litterbugs with community service picking up trash and gum in a chain gang.
An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedBetter to fine the litterbugs. It costs the taxpayers too much, to constantly keep the city clean because of dirty filthy litter bugs.

The city’s new 10-year cycling program master plan will soon be in development, and hopefully completed within the next year. A big part of the work ahead is to identify where separated bike lanes might be appropriate.
Lessons learned from the downtown trial will be an important input into the plan. The results so far support evidence elsewhere that separated bike lanes are a great way to make cycling more attractive on busy streets.

An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedI do not like cycling along major traffic routes. Too much pollution from tourist buses belching black smoke. Make them off on the side streets.

An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedGarbage needs to be collected every week. If you find you garbage cart is half empty all the time, GET A SMALLER CART! Also if you live a non social life with no visitors, no family or celebrations, maybe you have no need for a larger cart.
But you can plan ahead based on occasional demand. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedMake it a fairly large tax credit to offset the need for a larger yard trimming cart. Also include perennial shrubs and hedges.

Build an underground UBC Line SkyTrain along the Broadway corridor that connects with the existing V
29 votesTransLink is currently leading a study to determine the best approach to deliver high-capacity, fast, frequent, and reliable rapid transit for the Broadway Corridor from Commercial Drive to UBC. A number of technologies and alignment options are being considered, including rail rapid transit (e.g. SkyTrain), surface light rail transit, and bus rapid transit.
The City of Vancouver is directly involved as a partner agency in the study. In April 2010, City Council endorsed ten principles to guide City input into this process (http://vancouver/ubcline/principles).

This idea is not included in the Draft Greenest City Action Plan, but it is supported in principle. Convened a high speed rail summit in July 2010 to discuss this proposal
An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedOLD tech, try a 1000 KM/hr high speed rail . China has them things on the drawing board. Vancouver is no leader in high speed rail. There are none anywhere in Canada even.

Incentives are being considered for homes that are built sustainability and to be energy efficient.
An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedHow about cracking down on all the illegal suites and rentals and charging them more property tax. Just go by all the newer homes with too many cars parked up and down the side streets.
Global warming is here, there is no need for double glaze. Come again during the next ice age.

The City is supportive of this idea, but implementation requires action outside municipal jurisdiction. The City has and will continue to advocate to the Province and ICBC for PAYD and/or other distance-based forms of auto insurance.
An error occurred while saving the comment Drive More commentedAuto insurance is already graduated based on your number of years driving.
If you drive it is assumed you get better. If not you get into accidents or collect points and you end up paying more for insurance. go to ICBC,com for more information.
