Interesting idea. The City is always interested in new renewable energy technologies.

The City supports the idea of road / congestion pricing, and bridge tolls are one possible implementation. A regional (as opposed to a downtown or city) approach might work best, given travel behaviour, patterns of movement, and jurisdictional issues. This lies outside City jurisdiction, so our role is limited to advocacy; changes to Provincial legislation are required.

An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedThere is so much Dairy Queen, Nats Pizza, Starbucks and other fast food litter along Trafalgar St, and Stephens St. All discarded by the Kitsilano High School children at lunch time. There are bins around but they don't get used. The Principal said that once the children leave the grounds whether they litter or not has nothing to do with the School.

An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedVancouver can never expect to be the greenest city if we still allow single use non biogradable containers for food and drink. I took photos of English Bay at around 11 p.m. after the fireworks in July. Food and drink trash littered the streets and beaches. It was embarassing. We really do need to reduce this type of garbage.
An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedIt's depressing when I go to a food court and see so much waste for a 10 minute meal. We need reusable/washable plates, cups and cutlery. No more garbage cans conveniently sized so we can just tip our tray of 'used goods' into it. Have a booth in the foodcourts dedicated to washing these items.

An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedI totally agree with James Nadila. I've spent the last year sorting out my garbage the same way as he has done. And yes - lots and lots of dry plastic packaging (mostly food) all going to the landfill or incinerator. It really does seem insane that we are still doing this. And the City takes it away each week so we don't have to look at it. Banning plastic shopping bags would be a start to removing some of this plastic from our lives.

An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedBanning or placing an eco tax on plastic bottled water should be a priority for the City. A stainless steel water bottle costs less than $5 in this City. It should be the norm for everyone to carry their own water from home.
An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedIt should be a basic human right to have drinking water within a 15-30 walk - so please keep up the good work with increasing the fountains around the City.

Provincial jurisdiction.
An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedThis is a difficult subject and my family always wear bike helmets. However, if a bike share system downtown is to be successful I believe wearing a helmet should be optional. Mandatory for children though.

Low footprint food choices are not the same as vegan food choices in all cases, the analysis is more complex than this. Generally a low footprint diet is local, seasonal food, and limits consumption of red meat, dairy, and some grains. Low footprint food choices are included in the draft Greenest City Action Plan and will be discussed through community engagement activities.

This is an evolutionary process. The City of Vancouver is already considered a North American leader in this regard. Current and future plans and projects (e.g. Cambie Corridor Planning Program) will continue to embrace this ideal.
Janine Brossard supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedLets make it easier for children to cycle or walk to school on their own so parents don't have to drive them. This may even make it easier for parents to bike, walk or take transit to work in the mornings also. As it is currently illegal for children to bike on the sidewalks I propose designing safe bike friendly (e.g. with barriers) routes within 10 blocks of every school. Children 9 years and onwards should be able to get to school safely on their own and meet friends along the way. Many parents feel it is too dangerous for children under 16 to bike alone on the roads or on bike routes with no barriers.

The City supports Metro Vancouver’s plans to ban food scraps from the incinerator and landfills by 2015. The City will collaborate with Metro Vancouver to develop and implement a plan to ensure apartments, condos, businesses and institutions have access to food scraps collection programs before the ban comes into effect.
Janine Brossard supported this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedIt would be great to have a compost bin right beside every municipal garbage/recycling bin in the city.
An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedMy children's school just sent a note home saying they are removing the composting facilities due to fruit flies. They are to bring home their composting materials. I think this is a step in the wrong direction. Can VSB do something about this?

City of Vancouver to assist Metro Vancouver in their Non-Road Diesel Engine Initiatives & consider application to City of Vancouver equipment. This idea is considered in the draft Greenest City Action Plan
An error occurred while saving the comment Janine Brossard commentedGreat idea. The cost of leaf blowers (noise, pollution) don't seem to outweigh the benefits (blowing leaves into a pile). The people operating these have the benefit of wearing ear plugs but not the people walking by or trying to relax or sleep.
