There is a Campus City Collaborative project in the early stages of planning, where all of the post-secondary institutions are working with the City and the VEDC to talk about movement toward the greenest city, with a focus on creation of green jobs.
An error occurred while saving the comment ecoillogical commentedYes.. as a city striving to be sustainable it is essential that we fully contemplate and understand the complexity of ecological, social, economic and political contexts within which we are currently planning the scale, shape and character of Vancouver’s “greenest” future. And, yes, one would like to believe that our leading institutions of higher learning should be at the forefront of this process to ensure that our decisions are well informed by critical and unbiased assessment of competing interests and available knowledge. Surely a cooperative City University could be a focus of this sort of dialogue. We should also admit, however, that Vancouver is simultaneously a city that is inordinately focused on real estate development and it is notable that both UBC and SFU are rapidly converting forests to condos under the banner of environmental sustainability (search related idea “Stop UBC sprawl”). Given obvious political influence exerted by the development industry and related conflicted interests, nobody should be surprised that accelerated real estate development (i.e. EcoDensity) is central to City’s current strategy for Vancouver’s “greenest” future, and there is no reason to presume that a City University wouldn’t be similarly conflicted and misguided. As the saying goes, when your only tool is a hammer, everything's a nail.

An error occurred while saving the comment ecoillogical commentedYes.. what we need is to stop UBC's master plan for unsustainable urban sprawl! We don't need another city centre at the farthest reaches of Point Grey and at the cost of clear cutting precious local forest. UBC should refocus its undergraduate teaching facilities at downtown and other central sites (and on-line) rather than encourage further commuter traffic across the city. UBC is greenwashing its unsustainable and evergrowing preoccupation with real estate development!

29 votesTransLink is currently leading a study to determine the best approach to deliver high-capacity, fast, frequent, and reliable rapid transit for the Broadway Corridor from Commercial Drive to UBC. A number of technologies and alignment options are being considered, including rail rapid transit (e.g. SkyTrain), surface light rail transit, and bus rapid transit.
The City of Vancouver is directly involved as a partner agency in the study. In April 2010, City Council endorsed ten principles to guide City input into this process (http://vancouver/ubcline/principles).

Provincial jurisdiction.
An error occurred while saving the comment ecoillogical commentedYES.. Thank you.. bicycles are not motor vehicles! If police have time to harass cyclists then we can surely cut the city's policing budget.
