If an area is not using power, why load shed that area if it is already not using power? Buildings use light if no one is around turn off the lights. What is need is intelligent power control which is already being used in newer buildings. A sensor will detect someone walking into a room and turn on the lights, If no one is around the lights would be turned off.

Translink has a monopoly on transit. If it did not, anyone could pickup passengers for a fare.

Transit (and transit fares!) are controlled by TransLink, not the city. Having said that, reducing or eliminating transit fares is an interesting idea.
Unfortunately it’s not very feasible, at least as TransLink is currently funded. Unlike most North American cities, Vancouver’s transit problems aren’t due to a lack of demand but rather a lack of capacity. Anyone who’s ever tried to squeeze onto one of our busy buses or trains knows this all too well — there isn’t enough space even when people have to pay, let alone accommodate the additional demand that would be created if transit were free. Compare this to cities with fare-free zones, which are typically struggling for increase demand, and which typically have (a) less frequent service and/or (b) plenty of extra capacity to accommodate more riders.
In Vancouver, we need to provide more transit capacity to meet existing demand — and a LOT more…

No one forces anyone to buy a vehicle. It is a persons own choice to pay for their mode of transportation.
No roads no problem, people that still want to drive, would buy off road 4x4s.Some people really should just get a job and pay for the services they use instead of trying to get everything free. That is what keeps the world going, products and service.
If you really want a fare free transit, volunteer to be a bus driver for free and ask the rest of them to work for free. Ask the bus train manufacturers to donate for free. Work for free get free room and board. The only problem with everything for free is there will be some greedy bastards who take advantage of the system and take more than they really need and go sell for a profit somewhere else.. Translink has lots of buses parked unused when the Canda Line started. They can not afford to pay for any more bus drivers let alone the drivers they already have. There is a reason for rapid transit and that is to reduce the number of buses on the road to reduce costs.

If everyone takes free transit there will be Billions$$ lost in gas taxes. Fewer taxpayers since thousands of jobs will be lost. Translink is already Billion$$ in debt and already taxes everything it can get. Parking tax is already over 50%. transit levy on the hydro bills, translink tax on property.
I suggest that people who want a free transit system donate money to Translink to fund the free transit system

Anyone who values their tools and equipment knows not to lend them out to poor clueless neighbors. who will most likely bring them back broken and damaged.
If you do not want to buy tools and equipment you can rent them from any rental place or Home Depot.

Lots of new restaurants start up in these areas without any economic incentives. Do you think these companies want more competition that get incentives to offer cut rate prices and drive them out of business.
McDonalds is one of the top restaurants around the world. Why? Could it be the high quality food at a reasonable price and creates jobs and opportunities for millions of people that include managers and ownership.An error occurred while saving the comment Aone

You should be paying more for eating healthy Veggie Food and leave a big tip. McDonalds has healthy veggie food and needs no subsidizing or tax breaks. If you give it to one you end up having to give to all.

Value Village accepts donations at 49th Ave and Victoria Drive.
The Various SPCA stores accept donations.
There are diabetes , big brother and etc, boxes accepting clothes. -

If someone wants a job they can offer a bin cleaning service on their own.
Maybe offer to put on removable graphic art on the bin too. You can not paint on the BIn since it is city property.Just like the pooper scoopers will come by and scoop up the dog poop in your yeard that some people would not do themselves.

Goes to show there are a lot of lazy people in the Netherlands and Vancouver who just want every little thing done for them. Both have alot of pot smokers who must dream up this stuff.

The Neighbourhood Energy Utility (NEU) in Southeast False Creek provides space heating and domestic hot water to new buildings in the area. The system uses sewage heat recovery to supply most of the annual energy demand (70%). This approach is being considered in other areas. It should be based on the amont of land allocated to growing produce, trees and shrubs.
Property taxes are higher now because property owners are now paying for the water treatment plants which you should know if you were a home owner. Also the cost of the green trimming cart goes up every year along with recycling, sewer, the translink levy and school education tax and the usual other taxes.
Just wait for the secondary sewage treatment tax increase.
Alot of what is on the property tax notice is not even related to city property utilities. -

Grass can be eaten by humans and is used as a health food vegan drink and marketed as wheat grass to distinguish it from regular lawn grass but usually any cereal grass and rye grass can be eaten.
Also dandilions are an edible weed. -

City has supported SOLE food project (in the DTES) and is investigating other urban farming opportunities as part of the draft Greenest City Action Plan.

More property would be available if they rent the land. Starting price is $1 per square yard/metre. This would ensure that the city farmer is professional serious farmer and not a fly by night operator who will drain all the nutrients from the soil
Also City farmers should be bonded. You can not have a bunch of people posing as city farmers casing out homes to rob. -

If you want trees planted on your boulevard get a petition done and order the tree planting. As a homeowner you can do whatever you want as long as it meets the bylaws. If your not a homeowner STFU.

Why not just ban disposable diapers. Then just use cloth diapers with an absorbent insert if you want and when needed wash them yourself.
