BC Hydro has no spare electricity capacity as it is now. BC Hydro is scrambling to meet future demand as the population of the area increase even more. I see a return to natural gas generation for electricity.

There is already a Translink gas tax and it is a regional tax not just for Vancouver. Should maybe try for another double or a triple. The Translink gas tax is now 15 cents per litre for a total gas tax grab of 41 cents. So a tank fill up by a driver pays the fare for several freeloaders.
The parking tax went up 300% already too.So you got that, If you pay $1.10 / litre for gas 37% of it is all tax.

The fastest population growth is in Surrey. So it would only be logical to open a University in Surrey to reduce travel on the overcrowded Skytrains.
However as a business enterprise catering to the global education market, opening a university in downtown Vancouver could make sense.

Have you read the news lately. The young are a bunch of unteachable delinquents. That is why the immigration levels are so high while there is also high unemployment and homelessness.
Does it make sense?? If the youth could be properly educated there would be no need for immigration and there would be lots of jobs and zero unemployment. Teaching the basics first is a challenge.

A number of technologies and alignment options are being considered, including rail rapid transit (e.g. SkyTrain), surface light rail transit, and bus rapid transit.
The City of Vancouver is directly involved as a partner agency in the study. In April 2010, City Council endorsed ten principles to guide City input into this process (http://vancouver/ubcline/principles).

The reason for all the real estate development at UBC is to pay for all the higher wages of the professors and heads. Like any other people if there is money to be made cutting trees down, the trees get cut down and the environment is not even a concern.

We know that the only way to end unemployment at home and poverty around the world is to make the economy grow faster. But we also know that nothing can grow forever, that the faster the global economy grows, the sooner we’ll run out of essential resources, including fossil fuels, water, arable land, healthy ecosystems and moderate climate.
Economists and politicians can’t admit it, but the laws of physics apply, no matter what the latest polls tell us. The Earth has finite resources that will someday limit our economic growth.
The Earth cannot forever support 7 billion people consuming as much as Americans consume. And yet we’ve staked our future — individually, nationally, and maybe even as a species — on that impossible dream.
Some people are in denial. They believe that the Earth’s resources are limitless and that a bean stalk can grow to the sky. Or perhaps they know deep in their heart that we are on the road to an environmental and economic catastrophe, one that they think they alone will survive through wits, gold, and guns.

No such thing as City funded. All money comes from the taxpayer anyways.
All this can already be done. If you want some beautification in your neighborhood get a petition going, signed and sent to city hall.Look around where they built gardens and benches around the west back lane at 47th + 48th and Fraser. Sure looks good for a few months out of the year when things grow.

Just store the stuff in the freezer if you do not want a stink in your green bin. But layering stuff in the yard trimming bin, leaves, twiggs and other stuff on the bottom then some grass clippings. Then your household greens will keep things organic. Summer is over now too.

Highly unlikely the City can pay off the debt now. The Olympic Village of the LEED gold standard are not selling very well, while other new buildings not of the LEED standard but having more value for the money are selling out. Judging by all the greenies here all they want are handouts like free transit, free soil to grow and free tree fruit, etc.

Don't forget to ban all charcoal burning BBQs etc as well.
Coal/ charcoal burning is one of the #1 health hazards more so than wood burning. It is even worst when you have an idiot who uses charcoals in a gas BBQ and the smoke is blowing directly at your home.An error occurred while saving the comment Aone

Most people are concerned about getting to work on time not having fun.
This maybe OK with people who do not have to punch a time clock and have a locker and shower stall to use at work. -
