An error occurred while saving the comment Aone commentedit all depends on how much it costs. Given choice A a LEED Gold Olympic Condo or choice B a regular well built River Green condo but cheaper most would choose B.

A strategy in the Draft Greenest City Action Plan is to give economic development priority to green sectors, and develop a green technology centre and network, along with other specific infrastructure and demonstration projects.

The City supports this idea, but implementation requires action outside municipal jurisdiction. The City will continue to advocate to the Province and ICBC for PAYD insurance.

Requires support from TransLink. The City will continue to support this idea, through measures including secured rights-of-way (e.g. the centre median on 1st Avenue near the Olympic Village). The recent Olympic Line streetcar demonstration was very successful and helps make the business case for this project.

An error occurred while saving the comment Aone commentedIf driving was made easier for everyone. The expensive skytrain systems would not be needed. Rapid buses would all that would be needed.
Some people have to bring hundreds of pounds of equipment with them to work. Transit is not an option. Errands, how is someone going to bring hundreds of pounds of perishables on transit. Take up extra seats?

The draft Greenest City Action Plan will include directions that support less polluting, appropriately sized goods movement vehicles, including rail where appropriate. Trucks will still have a role to play for the forseeable future. Success requires support and leadership from regional, provincial, and federal partners.

Council has worked with Farmers Market Society to locate a new winter market site at Nat Bailey Stadium. Garden sites an interesting idea, but would need more study.

This idea will be considered in the framing of the ongoing engagement work on the greenest city.

An error occurred while saving the comment Aone commentedTranslink should contract the taxi companies to service the transit routes during off peak hours. They could get a base rate plus a rate x the number of passengers picked up.

A great idea that will be captured in the draft Greenest Ctiy Action Plan as part of a larger low carbon vehicles strategy.
An error occurred while saving the comment Aone commentedBy 2025 the USA is going to require a fleet wide fuel economy average of 60 MPG which is more than any hybrid and more convenient than any EV.
EVs will never get cheap enough as demand increases the demand for batteries increase and also the cost of the battery. The Lithium ION battery types are not cheap. Lithium is not cheap and plentiful.
Consider a high amount of electricity is from Coal power in the USA, EVs are really not that clean. More EVs mean cranking up the coal fired plants more.
An error occurred while saving the comment Aone commentedHybrids and EVs are just too expensive. It is better to use small fuel efficient vehicles like the Ford Fiesta and Mazda 2 that get mileage as good as Hybrids and are alot cheaper than EVs. Better vehicle for the money.

Outside City jurisdiction.
An error occurred while saving the comment Aone commentedIf all the industrial land was not turn into condos like the Olympic Village and Yaletown. Maybe more people could work closer to home.
It sounds great in theory but in reality it is completely different. -

BC Hydro has taken this approach with their rate setting schedules.
An error occurred while saving the comment Aone commentedDo you pay a BC Hyrdo Bill? It already is already a two tiered energy billing system.
