Provincial jurisdiction.
An error occurred while saving the comment Luis Goddyn commentedAlthough I choose to wear a helmet, I would rather that others cycled without a helmet than not ride at all! More folks cycling, even when unhelmeted, results in a net public health gain and less taxes for me! BC's law was passed without considering this now-well-established principle, and thus needs to be reviewed.

An ongoing process. Many of the City’s recent initiatives (e.g. downtown separated bike lane trial, additional traffic calming on existing routes) work towards this vision. The draft Greenest City action plan will support this idea, and include directions to help inform the upcoming transportation plan update and new active transportation plan.

However, we should make sure that fast commuter routes are developed and maintained in parallel to protected trails. Protected trails tend to be slow and obstacle-ridden with recreational/novice cyclists, rollerbladers pedestrians and other users. Furthermore, turns, transitions and lane changes are restricted on protected trails, which can frustrate commuting cyclists.

A critical challenge for Vancouver. Laneway housing, STIR, the 20% Inclusionary Zoning Policy, and other programs and policies are intended to help increase housing affordability— see http://vancouver.ca/housing. The draft Greenest City plan recognizes the importance of affordability and will review additional strategies, e.g. unbundled parking.
