An outright ban on these fixtures is not part of the Draft Greenest City Action Plan, however the efficient fixtures program and water auditing programs are areas in which this issue can be addressed.

An error occurred while saving the comment Matthew Boulton commentedI wish I had some votes left to support this one. We can't be green while destroying bears in our own backyard. We need penalties for people who refuse to be bear-aware. I also find it hard to believe we cannot find a place for the bears that have lost their fear of humans. A city-funded refuge maybe? That has to be preferable to shooting them.
I recently read about villagers in India who were trying to prevent human-tiger conflicts by surrendering some of their own livestock to old or hungry tigers that might otherwise become man-eaters. Regardless of whether that is actually a good idea, it's inspiring to see that people with so few resources are still willing to make sacrifices in order to preserve the neighbouring wild life.

An error occurred while saving the comment Matthew Boulton commentedCan't argue with David Suzuki.
He also says we should drive less. That is a practical step our city can and should take. We can’t very well tell other countries how to behave while our millions of cars are pumping large amounts of CO2 into the air. I’ll move my votes accordingly. An error occurred while saving the comment Matthew Boulton commented@DriveMore I think we are a long way from worrying about there not being enough CO2 in the atmosphere. Scrubbers act as an artifical rainforest, as the article says.

This is an evolutionary process. The City of Vancouver is already considered a North American leader in this regard. Current and future plans and projects (e.g. Cambie Corridor Planning Program) will continue to embrace this ideal.

The City supports this idea, but implementation requires action outside municipal jurisdiction. The City will continue to advocate to the Province and ICBC for PAYD insurance.

The draft Greenest City plan will include directions to explore pedestrian-only and pedestrian-priority streets in the downtown core. Potential locations will be identified at a later date (e.g. as part of the transportation plan update).

An error occurred while saving the comment Matthew Boulton commentedIt's not true that incineration precludes green-ness. Yes, it is certainly the last green resort (Reduce > Reuse > Recycle > Recover), but it's better than landfill and provides a way to recover some of the energy spent in manufacture and recycling.
