An outright ban on these fixtures is not part of the Draft Greenest City Action Plan, however the efficient fixtures program and water auditing programs are areas in which this issue can be addressed.

I agree. They often flush too quickly resulting in the person using the toilet to have to flush once again. Maybe urinals work for this, but sit down toilets are most definitely inefficient when it comes to water consumption. What a waste of water!!!

This is a great idea. Styrofoam releases toxic materials as it decomposes on its own. It is not easily recycleable as it takes more money to recycle it than produce more styrofoam, so there are very limited facilities that accept styrofoam. There is one in Surrey, but you have to drop the styrofoam off yourself and that's styrofoam used for packaging. Styrofoam type 6 (food containers) is not recycled anywhere that I am aware of.
I just read an article about two teens who have come up with a way to decompose styrofoam at a quick rate using bacteria and produce CO2. Maybe this could be looked into and maybe this operation could be used to generate energy similarly to sewage-to-heat systems? I am not an expert but feel that this is something worth looking into.

Outside City jurisdiction. TransLink is continually looking at ways to improve transit throughout the region, but additional funding is needed to make progress.

Vancouver has a One Day campaign and other on-line tools, as do many other organisations in the community. That said new tools will also be developed to support the Greenest City process: http://vancouver.ca/oneday/

Requires support from TransLink. The City will continue to support this idea, through measures including secured rights-of-way (e.g. the centre median on 1st Avenue near the Olympic Village). The recent Olympic Line streetcar demonstration was very successful and helps make the business case for this project.

This is acknowledged as a key strategy to better integrate cycling and transit. In 07/2009 the City committed some funding for secure parking facilities at Broadway-City Hall and Olympic Village Canada Line stations. The City has also conducted a feasibility study for a downtown bike centre.

The City supports Metro Vancouver’s plans to ban food scraps from the incinerator and landfills by 2015. The City will collaborate with Metro Vancouver to develop and implement a plan to ensure apartments, condos, businesses and institutions have access to food scraps collection programs before the ban comes into effect.

Low footprint food choices are not the same as vegan food choices in all cases, the analysis is more complex than this. Generally a low footprint diet is local, seasonal food, and limits consumption of red meat, dairy, and some grains. Low footprint food choices are included in the draft Greenest City Action Plan and will be discussed through community engagement activities.

An ongoing process. Many of the City’s recent initiatives (e.g. downtown separated bike lane trial, additional traffic calming on existing routes) work towards this vision. The draft Greenest City action plan will support this idea, and include directions to help inform the upcoming transportation plan update and new active transportation plan.

The City supports this idea, but implementation requires action outside municipal jurisdiction. The City will continue to advocate to the Province and ICBC for PAYD insurance.
