Georgia Street Viaduct
The vacant dirt lots under the Georgia Street Viaduct should be turned into a desirable walkable blvd lined shops and cafes that face onto expo blvd and look out onto false creek (and hopefully the expansion of the science world park). Shops and cafes and plazas are sorely missing from this part of the city and having walked many times under this viaduct during Vancouver's common rainy days it is a pleasure! The viaduct is tall and broad and shields one from the rain while still providing the sense of openness. It would be so wonderful to have an outdoor cafe (which could be built carbon neutral serving local food) that you can sit out during the rainy summer days - not under an eve or an umbrella but under at 30+ foot tall canopy. There has been talk to demolish this structure in favor of building condos in it's place or making the top into a park. However it would be releasing embodied energy adding to carbon emissions to demolish this and build new streets and structures, and building a park on top does not address the traffic flow to that side of the city and ignores the opportunity of what lies below that would unite neighborhoods and build walkable communities in this area like the westend.
Has been identified as a potential redevelopment zone

I like your idea for half of our Vancouver years, but know that most people enjoy the sunshine on patio's in the summer...
