If an area is not using power, why load shed that area if it is already not using power? Buildings use light if no one is around turn off the lights. What is need is intelligent power control which is already being used in newer buildings. A sensor will detect someone walking into a room and turn on the lights, If no one is around the lights would be turned off.

All major buildings should be fitted with Power monitoring systems so that they can reduce their usage at non peak times. Systems are available that load shed area's that are not being used and improve power efficiency . Power agencies could give incentives to companies to adopt better practices and penalize those who waste. The better we manage the resource, the less rivers we have to dam to build more hydro stations to keep up with our growing demand
