Enhanced cycling infrastructure: Olympic road work @ West 1st at Cambie = how *not* to do it
Olympic roadwork at West 1st east of Cambie is an example of how NOT to do it. The road was widened to include a huge median/parking lot with even less road space for cyclists and more traffic interaction with new parking bays added to developments. Boo!
The median on W 1st Ave is to accommodate a future streetcar system.

Thanks for the additional info Paul. I quite liked the Olympic Line streetcar so I'm pleased to know that the median supports future streetcar infrastructure. Good to know that the bike lanes are getting additional paint as well.

The wide median on 1st Avenue is designed as dedicated space to accommodate a future streetcar. Giving transit its own space on the street(separate from other traffic) will help to increase travel time reliability.
You may have noticed the bike-lane stencils on the street -- a painted bike lane will be appearing soon. For cars, this is primarily a local-access street, so high-speed or through-moving vehicles are not anticipated.

+10 for Road Work
