How can we reach our 2020 Greenest City targets?

solar water taxis

London has a solar water taxi, why can't we? All those little boats beetling around--not to mention the seabuses--could be solar. Each station would give them a quick charge or battery change.

Putting solar panels directly onto the roofs of the aqua-busses might allow them to be electically powered, without quick charge or battery exchange stations.

Good luck getting translink to convert the sea-busses, they can't even seem to fund the third vessel.

Sponsor a design competition for university students to design the system, and then work with a local company to develop a prototype. A well thought-through marine engineering project would be a refreshing occurrence in the land of BC Ferries incompetence.

Ya, nice idea. I have considered that myself, but there is an issue with limited dock space, keeping competition low. Solar should reduce the cost of those little boats to something more reasonable, which would encourage usage. They are a keystone in the transportation paradigm of False Creek.
